June 28th, 1969 was the beginning of the Stonewall Riots, which took place at the Stonewall Inn, a bar located in New York City’s Greenwich Village. Two transgender women of color, Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, were said to have resisted arrest and thrown the first brick.
